Research
Research conducted by The Aquatic Health Program is diverse in nature with an overarching goal to protect nature and its resources for people, wildlife and the planet. Over 70% of our planet is water—including both freshwater and marine ecosystems. The health of these systems is critical as freshwater resources are necessary for drinking water and to support agriculture and industry. Freshwater and marine ecosystems also support much of the biodiversity on our planet including important food resources for humans. Our lab combines observational and experimental research to broaden our understanding of aquatic ecology and toxicology, with a particular focus on applied ecotoxicology questions
Objective
Our goal is to make sure aquatic ecosystems maintain their health and function for all species. As such, we use investigative tools to address environmental impacts (including from contaminants, climatic change and resource extraction) at all levels of biological organization to evaluate their impact on the health of aquatic habitats.
